CURRENT: ‘By Necessity’ across Alta Forma (Narrm/Melbourne) and Daine Singer (Brunswick) from 12pm Saturday 2 May, 2026.

‘By Necessity’ features John Brooks, Andrea Eckersley, Jacquelyn Greenbank, Leah Muddle, Dell Stewart, Meredith Turnbull and Mashara Wachjudy and explores making guided by principles of necessity including: a direct relationship to the body, and the body in space; with humour, memory and politics through image making; with repurposing, world building and ideas of sustainability.

Opening celebration at Daine Singer, 2-4pm Saturday 2 May.
Exhibition Dates: 2 — 30 May.

UP NEXT: ‘Some Types’, featuring new works by Narrm based artists Roseanne Bartley and Adam Cruickshank and Te Whanganui-a-Tara based artist Kelly McDonald. Some Types focuses on three iconic artists who make work exploring the ontological qualities of things, useful objects and jewellery. Whether reframing a whole and it’s parts or collapsing an artwork and its account, these artists create unconventional indexes and pathways to make meaning. Symbols, glyphs and fonts are broken down into new elements or transformed into entirely new things. Please join us for a celebration of disruptive and unruly types.

Opening celebration Alta Forma, 5-7pm Thursday 4 May.
Exhibition dates: 4 – 27 June.
